SALLIE HAD two sons in the early years of her marriage to Zeb. Born only seven minutes apart, the boys looked alike, but they were vastly different in personality. Jimmie had been first born, and it seemed that he maintained that priority as he grew. He was the first to walk, to talk, to kiss a girl, and to leave home to go into life on his own. And, he was the first at the prompting of his father, to join the collector’s car club. Yes, his brother John did all of these things as well, but after college degrees were but endeavors of their pasts Jimmie went to the city for a career in the automotive industry. And John, having a degree in agronomy, returned home. John stayed there to work at the granary.

After those growing years, it seemed that the only thing that kept them together and talking, was when they marveled at their father’s love for old trucks.

Zeb had taught his boys well. He made sure that they learned about  the business of the world, about the priorities of family ties, and about the love of God for all who are

heavy laden. That, some say, is why he helped his boys salvage the old trucks. In working out the restoration of worn iron, Zeb believed that the twin ties of faith and work would keep the boys close to one another. But the world and callings of adulthood, plus the independent nature within young Jimmie, would cause the distance to grow wide

between father and son. Some said that Jimmie left home because of his father’s undaunted spirit, others say no… “The boy was like a well worn truck… easy to crank, and his twin brother knew how to turn the handle.”

Sons of Thunder!

And Jesus appointed twelve to be with him and to be sent out to preach and have authority to cast out demons: Simon whom he surnamed Peter, James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, whom he surnamed Bo-anerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder...”  (Mark 3:14-17)

“Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread…. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the glory, and power…. Forever and ever.”

So it is and shall always be...
